Who joined the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now the China Academy of Art) in 1954, embarked on a journey that straddled both romantic and modernist painting traditions.

In the early 1960s,  Yide Jin studied in a workshop led by Romanian artist Boba and later served as an assistant to Ni Yide. As the artist reminisces, Boba’s teachings provided a structured foundation of European painting, distinct from the prevalent Soviet style of the time. The initial phase emphasized analytical research, dissect, and to analyze structures.

In the latter, when portraying the subject, there is an emphasis on concise summarization, a need for personal judgment, and a drive to discover the essence beneath the surface. Boba’s teaching can be said to have rekindled modernist painting since the 1920s.
